“Critical Geography” and the critical of the Geography

Abstract

In the presence of a world in crisis, the possible solutions pass necessarily through the analytical potency capable to disclose the contradictions that make explicit the dynamics of the reality, as well as through the necessity of surpass the ideological production of the knowledge that has allowed the reproduction of the system by establishing the idea of a Geography applied to the planning, under the orientation of the State. The transformations in Geography bring out the fact that the critical and radical thought, condition of the understanding of the world and that has advanced so much in Brazil in the 70´s and 80´s, is now flowing back. Geography is flooded by the neoliberal thought which imposes the efficiency and the competence - intrinsic bureaucracy qualities - as objective last. Thus, the research activity is submitted to the requirements of the market, restoring the question of the role of the geographers in understanding the current society.
