The tourist´s activity as development option for the rural areas of Táchira State, Venezuela. The case of San Vicente de la Revancha

Abstract

Diverse communities of the space rural tachirense have been suffering, for several years, a progressive deterioration at economic and social level. The growing abandonment is noticed on the part of the young population in search of the best conditions of life that urban environment offers. In San Vicente de la Revancha a town located in the Parque Nacional El Tamá, very near the border with Colombia, this situation has been increased with the presence of irregulars from the neighboring country, who displace the local population. In this work the tourist development is presented as an alternative to be considered for the revitalization of this town, based on the interpretation pattern that allows the harmonization among the sociocultural, economic and ecological environments. The proposal understands the formulation of a General Plan, conception of the product/service and constitution of tourist companies with the inhabitants' participation.
