The building of San Agustín convent (1728-ca.1800): engineers, master builders and impact in the Barcelona's Raval

Abstract

Historical centers of cities have been formed by multiple processes; some of them are relevant because their dilatation in time, their extension and the numerous urban agents involved. In the eighteenth century, the new convent of the agustinos calzados order was built in Barcelona. It was a notable religious complex built in the former suburb that is nowadays the Raval neighborhood, a part of the historical center of the city. Military engineers and master builders were the professionals who carried out a relevant role in the work’s projection, from which survives an important part; its impact still remains in the urban network.
