Abstract

Mexican agrarian history during the XIX century, can be explained following a double process: On one side, a successful but unfinished liberal project focused in privatizing land that consolidated the haciendas as dominant productive units. On the other, the paralel debilitation of peasant pueblos, corporative owners of land and water, and the struggles they fought in defense of their ancestral patrimony.
