Abstract

The question that guides this work is available in the set of relations between the state and city in the construction of National Projects in Latin America, especially when comes to Brazil. The process has gained more visibility in the second half of the nineteenth century to the early twentieth century, when cities claims the authority of his power against the territorial areas of the province articulated in the binomial large property/exportation. It is precisely this geographical texture that fits the processes of urban modernization inaugurated in Latin America, notably in Buenos Aires (Argentina), Montevidéu (Uruguay) and in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), creating capital and modern spaces for the pursuit of political and cultural hegemony.
