Scale and territory: the view of municipal districts in Brazil

Abstract

The municipal district, in general, represents the territorial institutionalization of the local scale. Although it has different demoninations and peculiarities, it may be affirmed that such institution may be found, equivalently, in several countries. Thinking about the municipal district means to watch the production and political actions in the local scale, especially in a world with agents capables of appropiate themselves of scales more and more extensives. How the approachment of the local scale changes and, as it implies, the municipal district, its concerns, agents and spacial ranges are especially discussed in this article.
