Abstract

Proliferation of cultural performances as a strategy to enhance the european cities has been a constant in the recent years. However, in most of the cases, the studies on the effects generated have been focused on the subjects related to the infrastructure built or in the economic benefits obtained in celebrations. Other aspects of this performance, specially related to intangible impact and the image generated have not been studied with the same intensity. This article tries to focus on the two last issues to create a general clasification of the impact of specific events on the image of the city. The aim is to get a critical approach to the current incoordination between cultural policies of the cities and the concrete performances developed by cultural institutions. For this, we analyze eleven european cities in Spain, France and Belgium.
