Protected territories and arenas of conflict in the Conservation Units of Use Sustainable in Sergipe, Brazil

Abstract

Conservation Units are created as a strategy to address the planning territorial problems generated by inappropriate use of natural resources, resulting in the loss of biodiversity. Brazil is the scene of several conflicting settings, initiated in the political arena, and set the socioeconomic and environmental. Since 2000 their CUs are created, implemented and managed by the Law provides that the National System of Conservation Units dividing them into CUs Integral Protection and Sustainable Use. This essay aims to analyze the territorial conflicts engendered in the territories of the CUs in of Sustainable Use, in category Environmental Protection Area, involving various actors and interests for the ownership and use of natural resources, presenting the situation of the units of the State of Sergipe. Obeying national logic, the management of CUs in Sergipe is permeated by territorial conflicts, from the fierce disputes, driven by various interests for the use and appropriation of these territories.
