Abstract

Military areas played a key role in two contradictory and complementary processes that configured the central districts of the urban area of Natal. On the one hand, acted as inducers of territorial growth, on the other, constituted an obstacle to its growth in certain directions. Our analysis to comprise two moments and highlights the different attitudes of the state, and military institutions respect the strategies use and occupancy, and control and protection of Areas of Environmental Protection from its delimitation in 2007.
