Abstract

In contemporary cities we assist to a growing complexity of social control forms: new survillance devices, technical networks and symbolic and rhetorical instruments jointly contribute to security production at urban spaces. We analyze these processes in the Puerto Madero neighborhood in the City of Buenos Aires. We will analyze its spatial configuration and land use, and describe the multiple security devices that take place at Puerto Madero, to see how this specific security production affects the development of practices of residence, work, consumption and leisure, and establishes specific material and symbolic boundaries.
