Abstract

In many Mexican cities has allowed the illegal settlement of the population, they become rooted in a problem that has been built and promoted by the authorities themselves. In the metropolitan area of Tampico, Mexico, local authorities have also used this condition to control this sector of the population for political gain. Is illegal land occupation and subsequent consolidation of the settlement a form of control of space and society by politicians or is also a form of control by the inhabitants of these settlements? Finally, conclusions about the effects of these settlements in the environment are provided.
