Abstract

The metropolization of space contributes to transform forms, structure and urban dynamics. Metropolization is associated with two other phenomena: globalization and productive restructuring. We consider the role of innovations in information and communication technologies that change the productive capacity, locational strategies and daily life. Currently the worry about the security causes less concern for the integrity of the city as a whole - as collective ownership - and more with the isolation and fortification of their own home within the city. The walls surrounding cities are transformed into guarded neighborhoods, public spaces with closed protection and controlled admission, and guards at condominiums. The city that opened, closes again, but not in the collective sense. The city also closes within the residence itself. Our goal is to analyze the various forms and mechanisms of control of space and the creation of spaces of control, because we believe that space is a social product and is produced with intentions that interfere in everyday life.
