Abstract

Space is the specific subject of geography, although there are few empirical studies of their schooling. The topic of the work corresponds to the school construction of the geographical space, in the rural context. The target is to investigate until point the cognitive skills of the pupils, as well as the methodology used with the contribution of the materials designed, with help of academic institutions, there are determinant factors in the explanation of the elements that form the geographical space. The problem of investigation is the following: the space and the territory are objects of geographical knowledge that are constructed in the school education of conceptual and compartmentalized form, making difficult the comprehension of the next way and the space in different scales. For its development there is used a quantitative and qualitative methodology based on the research-action. In the design there informs an experimental group and a control group. The taking part courses correspond to the first year of average education to A and B of the Eduardo Frei Montalva school of the rural commune of Monte Patria, IV Region, Chile.
