Abstract

After a period of urban growth, a first evaluation of the consequences in spatial structures on Spanish urban areas is necessary. Population density variation is a basic element of analysis. In this article, such transformations are investigated by means of econometrics models of urban population density in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Sevilla, Bilbao and Zaragoza from 2001 to 2007. Significative changes are observed in the most populated areas as well as variations in the functional form in two cases.
