Abstract

In the rural periurban areas of the Metropolitan Region of Santiago de Chile, the processes of socio-territorial transformations do not present a homogeneous spatial expression. Therefore, the strategies applied in the processes of territorial management will be progressively more relevant, insofar they carry the accumulated social experience of local agents. Some case studies show that new local strategies and territorial assessment projects are possible. The transformations of the metropolitan city call for a reformulation of the forms of urban management, presently a source of conflicts, so as to advance towards participatory governance and in that way ensure the viability of urban growth metropolitan.
