The nature of the planning discourse “environmentalization”

Abstract

Our main concern is to point out the nature of the planning discourse “environmentalization” including the ideas of sustainable development and sustainable cities during the last decade. To reflect upon such issues requires a critical exam of society, since some conception of nature and environment lay within all contemporary socio-spatial practices. Besides theoretical literature, the planning practice faces a stalemate where is necessary to integrate the social and environmental dimension, since both join together the social production of space. Hence it is worth doing a critical reading upon the environmentalization of the planning discourse, aiming to scrutinize such notions in order to move towards a critical practice of planning,
