Abstract

This paper analyzes the evolution of internal migration of Latin Americans in Spain between 1998 and 2011 from the Residential Variation Statistics and the Continuous Population Register. In it we highlight the changes occurred during the years of economic crisis. In particular, we are interested in changes in migration intensity, the effects on the distances, geographical patterns and internal net migration rates. In the first part of the article we show the results from a statistical-descriptive analysis of the intra-provincial and inter-provincial flows. The second part explores first on different aspects of migration distance and secondly, discusses the effects of internal migration on the territory, through the analysis of internal net migration and its impact on the concentration and dispersion of Latin Americans.
