Abstract

We will begin by briefly explaining what we are referring to when we speak of “territorial stigmatization” as one of the faces of the coin of collective (or territorialized) symbolic capital in the neoliberal city. A sociological concept that, in the face of citizen insecurity, provides fundamental keys to understand how develops the neoliberal government of social insecurity through “security issues”, through the citizen security device. We will finish by contributing our findings in a research on the Lavapiés neighborhood (Madrid), through which we can point out how such a symbolic capital operates and the sociological relationship between the positions taken and social positions.
