The trenet of Valencia (1888-2000): the historical and technological dimension of a public transport

Abstract

The modern network of Metro of Valencia has been formed by means of the construction, between 1888 and 1917, of five lines of narrow-gauge railway, that have made possible the communication of the capital with their bordering regions. The historical events of the different concessionary companies and the successive technological contributions, as far as motor and towed material, has caused that the valencian capital and its zone of influence arrange, at the present time, of means of effective and irreplaceable transport that is in continuous expansion, with opening of new stations and that counts, in addition, whit the first line of tramway of installed modern conception in a spanish city.
