Abstract

This paper provides arguments in favour of an epistemological renovation of biogeography syntonized with the projected modifications for the global space by the recent development of biotechnology and consequently with some of the new basis that will demarcate the relationships between countries which own biodiversity sources and the ones that own technology. Among this new basis, the biogeographical.becomes in evidence. In so doing, biogeography, as well as rescues some of the original formulations, inspired by Friedrich Ratzel (1844-1904) and his proposal to include the anthropogeographical and geopolitical dimensions on what he calls universal biogeography, innovates and renovates itself, whereas offers itself as a tributary and organizing discipline of new knowledge areas which approaches promote propositions in which human, biological and physical dimensions to be considered in a inseparable way, and, therefore, may help us to understand and clear up the connections between biological and cultural diversities.
