Abstract

This paper deals, in the first place, with the definition attempts of the port city concept, and of the joint to services grouped in the port terciary call ( port community). It is proposed a new definition as of the one which, and introducing two new designated terms apparent magnitude and absolute magnitude, not alone could determine their spatial-temporary dynamic, but also to establish that the terciary port can be us very useful as a basic indicator of the maritime and urban development capacity of the city. This implies that it will be understood as a dependent subset of the total of the transactional activity. Though the current trend is that of the physical separation between port and city, this is only an apparent phenomenon based on the emigration of the services on foot of dock. Real motor, management services, continue occupying the urban center and the administrative areas. The existence of the port city as specific object of study, it can not be accepted without reserves.
