Abstract

We present a theoretical and epistemological introduction to the study of toponymy, in an attempt to establish some general principles for the análisis of place-names from within geography. We focus, in particular, on the interdisciplinary nature of this branch of knowledge. Although we adopt a predominantly regional or geographical approach, we also take into consideration contributions made from within philosophy and linguistics.
