Abstract

Overpopulation control is one of the main difficulties faced by China's rulers over the past sixty years. Policies aimed at controlling population growth have been polemic, as have their results. Considered to be the most coercive method of demographic control, the One-Child Policy has changed the Chinese population’s reproductive behaviour and has had important economic and social consequences.
