Abstract

In the end of 90’s a very interesting fact happened in Criciuma city which located in the South of Santa Catarina: about 26.000 citizens from Criciuma would be living in the United States most of them were living in Boston. The trajectory of this migration is not far from international migration rules: a strong presence of social nets – legal and illegal. On the other hand, there is an offer of disqualified social services to Criciuman citizens. It’s also in the 90’s that the Criciuma Region became the headquarter of the major companies that still produces ceramics coating, with a meaningful incorporation of technology and reduction of employees. Our reflection points to the necessity of understanding the logic of this migratory process, seeking for an explanatory connection in a place that is outstanding in the national economy and, at the same time, supplier of cheap labor cost to the American work market.
