Abstract

We have recently witnessed a gradual awareness towards protection and preservation of mining and industrial heritage. Reinvention of many mining territories into tourism (mining museums, interpretation centres, mining parks etc.) has helped to prevent the loss of this heritage that is part of collective memory of the population, and especially remarkable is the work of associations in scientific meetings and publications. Alongside this, the appearance of a document as the El Bierzo Charter for the Conservation of the Mining Heritage in Spain helps to concretize the conceptual and methodological bases on any action related to recovering mining heritage.
