Abstract

Nowadays, interrelationships between knowledge, human capital and urban development arouse an increasing attention on the international bibliography of economic geography. This article analyse the relevance of knowledge-based economy and the knowledge workers into the metropolitan region of Madrid, your recent evolution, spatial inequalities and the impact across the new hierarchy of cities. The second part propose a critical review on the quality and stability of work in knowledge intensive activities and the new interurban division of labour, and suggest new lines of research.
