Abstract

The presented text is part of a research project with the aim of studyng the cultural valuables brought by portuguese immigrants and maintained by them in foreign countries by means of conciliating as association clubs. The portuguese immigrants are organized in different types of associations at a way of rendering pleasant the homesickness and to maintain alive their culture. They pass to descendents, even born in Portugal or in Brazil, their roots without despising the values of the acceptation country. With a general analysis, particular emphasis will be given to the portuguese community rooted in Pelotas, especially that connected to portuguese charity society and first of december portuguese club, both institutions that congregates portugueses and brasilians through health, culture and leisure activities.
