The politics of assistance to foreign immigrants of scarce resources

Abstract

The problems that foreign immigrants face are related to the adaptation to the conditions of the labor market, which in Spain has a strong informal sector, and also to the access to housing, education and health care. From an individual or household perspective the needs of foreign immigrants are similar to those of the other less privileged groups in the country. Another question is to consider the needs of the economy in general, the needs of the State or of those related with the local environment where immigrants live and work. If we approach the topic of foreign immigration it implies that we question fundamental aspects of the way of life, or the economic and political organization of the country
