The brazilian agrarian question in the beginning of the XXI century

Abstract

To understand the agrarian question in the threshold of the century XXI it is necessary the new elements that appeared in the decade of 1990 to discuss. In that sense, we accomplished a reflection regarding the main theories of the agrarian question and we analyzed the confront between MST and the government Fernando Henrique Cardoso, in the dispute of projects of rural development and in the appropriation of political spaces. We presented a reading of the meaning of the family agriculture as new element of the agrarian question, as well as the importance of the occupations as a form of access to land. We emphasized the differences of the concepts the struggle for land and of agrarian reform, as well as the devaluation of the notion of agrarian reform. Finally, we defends as possible dialogue to the workers' participation in the politics of rural settlements.
