Abstract

This article is aimed at demonstrating and analysing the territorialization of economic changes in the State of São Paulo, Brazil. First, based on the known literature, we present how the concept of development may be understood through indicators such as the process of industrialization, the role of railroads, the role of immigrants and the results of government policies established by federal, state and municipal governments in the last thirty years. From a theoretical point of view, we consider the paradigm of the axes of development and the recent transformations in the capacity of Brazilian industrial production. For that, as an empirical basis, we describe the industrial deconcentration in the state, through the role of a road-and-railroad axis linking the cities of Sao José do Rio Preto and Mirassol. Firstly, we emphasize enterprises the factors of the location of the enterprises and, last but not least, the logistical infrastructure that defines the modernization and linkage among enterprises in several nets, mainly through computers.
