Abstract

The path of Borges toward the cosmópolis is also one which takes him from the local to the universal. This writer from the ultramarine Europe forged and tempered his literary weapons in connection with the Spanish literary movements and in contact with the Buenos Aires local milieu. But nurtured with multiple intellectual inheritances and with a vast culture he was able to rise to universal problems, carrying out a deeply stimulating work for the thought. This paper studied his itinerary from the suburbs to the cosmópolis and from the local to the universal, a process in which he cessed of being the "South American writer", who sometimes he pretended to become a universal writer and to transmit the values and desires of an idealist.
