Economic and Domestic work by Gender: An estimation of the Economic Value of the Domestic Work

Abstract

It is depicted the economic significance of the domestic work performed by the household members, making a conceptual construction to establish the boundaries between family life and domestic duties, as well as between domestic duties and economic activities. Carefully it is thought about some methodological aspects in order to find a way to estimate the economic value of the domestic duties. Finally, with Mexican information an exercise is performed to show the economic impact of the domestic work, indicating that it is equivalent to 17.41 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
