The city that makes the Maquila: The case of Ciudad Juárez (México)

Abstract

The configuration of the urban space of the cities depends mainly on the diverse moments of the productive activities and it is starting from them that the transformations are given in the urban space. In the case of Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, the insert of the maquiladora industry as "the invisible hand" that it took the development and progress through the transition from a primary economy to a secondary, printed him a new dynamic and spacial configuration. To almost three decades of the maquila program, the obtained inheritance has been a geographical mark of city that is linked to the activities and globalization processes, with the consequent social and spacial polarization and its manifestations.
