Abstract

Thanks to the thorough analysis of the prolific and heterogeneous existing records, we can state that the policy followed by Bilbao local social capital over the urban shaping of Madrid within the 20 postward years followed two main lines: on the one hand, the activities of the Compañía Urbanizadora Metropolitana and, on the other hand, those of the Compañía Inmobiliaria Metropolitana, societies in which the Banco de Vizcaya together with the Otamendi brothers took part. However , these societies did nothing but strengthen the development policy followed before the war. In the 40s, the other tendency to be followed was development with the setting up of a chain of real estate agencies supported by either the Banco de Vizcaya or the Banco de Bilbao: Bancaya, Vacesa, Bami, Edificadora Española, Granadaban,…these agencies would make the shaping of Madrid designed by the Basque financial bodies viable.
