Abstract

Territorial Heritage has been incorporated by mass tourism, and it’s generating new expectation of development and tourist diversification. For this reason, it’s necessary to do a theoretical and conceptual reflection more approximated at territorial, patrimonial and tourist approaches. This paper explains the importance to understand the complementarity between to heritage and tourism, to get a good model of development. To do this purpose, the research group "Tourism, Heritage and Development" (UCM) has done an operative interpretation of heritage in terms of “Territorial Patrimonial System". The methodologies of analysis and diagnosis must be useful to help policymakers to design intervention strategies that promote efficient management, where the territorial heritage is an important piece to build an alternative development. We present, in detail, an "inclusive methodology territorial" to approach the study of tourism functionality of heritage. In this paper shows the results and proposals done in the town of Carmona, in the urban area of Sevilla, an Andalusian agro-city prototype with a rich and varied heritage, well maintained and a high degree of authenticity but with low levels of tourist functionality.
