Hello! The work of the women operators in the phone power stations: a compared study

Abstract

The history of the work of the women operators in the telephone central stations is mixed with the history of the installation and diffusion of the telephone worldwide. This paper seeks to analyse how the implantation of a technological innovation produced social and cultural changes in the world of the work. We have focused our investigation in the processes and technological changes in the moment of adoption of new technologies and in the hard-working women's role at the telephone central stations in Brazil. We also have tried a comparative approach with the women workers from United States, France and Spain.
