Tourism, work and socio-spatial development in Recife, Brazil: the solidary comunity program and the public centre of work and rent promotion as integrating proposals

Abstract

We discuss the relationship between touristic activities and work market in Recife/Brazil, seaching for social and spatial development. Touristic activities has increased a lot during the last twelve years in loco; moreover these activities has been understanding by poor people as an opportunity to find a work and/or an occupation, searching for their social and spatial mobility. On the other hand, the politico-economic elites think promote the idea of spatial and social development based on spatial actions in the city in order to create the illusion of urban development; but the social and spatial development don’t really happen due to local underdevelopping conditions. That’s why we have to thinking an other urban policy for working in the city; conditio sine qua non to promote the development.
