Abstract

For more than thirty years the state has supported important investment in social housing, but in Mexico and especially in Mexico City, serious problems of housing still persist. In order to overcome these problems not only enough resources and a housing policy with a clear social emphasis are required but, also, programs that take into account limitations that are detected observing the way homes are used by the families that inhabitant them must be implemented. The aspects that we have have been able to detect as particularly important through our research are related with: the demographic characteristics of the inhabitants, the typology and physical features of the housing, the forms of social interactions that inhabitants establish, and the administrative aspects involved.
