Abstract

Trough a historical review, the elements that have configured the urban morphology of the historical center of Morelia are analized, underling the morphology of the houses which is the principal element of the permanence or transformation of the urban structure. The urban morphology concepts and the building types that characterized the urban form are the basis or the ideas structurde through this investigation. There have been detected seven “types” of houses during the historical process of Valladolid-Morelia, all of them are configured around a patio. The conclusion is that it is necessary to revive the historical house as a useful tool to achieve the conservation of the historical center of Morelia.
