Abstract

At the end of century XIX the catholic charity constituted the initial instance of construction of social housing in Santiago of Chile. The residential sets constructed by these institutions began to delineate to the social geography of the city, being given in addition a form preconceived to the city through groupings of houses of constructive characteristic similars, that are marking the city-planning landscape of Santiago. Their initiatives served as base for the action that began to develop the State in the first decade of century XX with the promulgation of Law of Working Rooms of 1906.
