Changes in Urban Housing in Ibagué: A Problem of the History of Mentalities

Abstract

Columbian historiography has developed on the basis of a discipline whose studies have dealt with the analysis of space only very superficially. The history of mentalities as that part of history which examines the different discursive practices which circulate within society- the entire field of mental incidents- also has to consider the space in which these things take place in order to interpret this space and to find out in which way it affects the behaviour of its people. This influence of space on the different forms of living will be analysed in the city of Ibagué, based on the different transformations of housing which can be interpreted with the help of the examination of private space in different time periods.
