Abstract

The territorial division of the State is not an exact reflection of the real distribution of the population on the territory. In the Argentina Republic case, the division is extremely complex since several juridictional and administrative divisions are superimpossed. This fact influences not only the power mechanisms but also the channels of popular representation, the census and the electoral constituencies. This paper describes and analyses from a geographical, juridical and sociological perspectives the categories and jurisdictional entities, and also their relationships with the actual distribution of the population. It is also proposed terminological and methodological tools to facilitate the understanding of these relationships.
