Online specialized dictionaries: overview and future prospect

Abstract

On-line specialized dictionaries are specific products, different from printed dictionaries. Coverage is not the only criteria to determine dictionaries quality. Parameters as the origin of the web page, user's delimitation, access control, security elements, degree of hypertextuality, permeability, interaction, adaptation to lexicographical functions, access system to data, etc. are also important points to describe online dictionaries. This paper proposes a selection of main features of online specialized dictionaries, according lexicographical and digital parameters. The presentation includes examples from online bilingual specialized dictionaries English-Spanish.
