Abstract

The dissemination of new information and communication technologies (ICT) in peripheral regions and rural environments can generate new expectations of socioeconomic local development. In our communication we present a methodology of intervention in a rural municipality in Galicia in order to disseminate the use of ICT by promotion of an interactive and multimedia web-portal which promotes the creation of a local virtual community by designing and creating of a cyber school, a cyber institute and, by recuperation of culture, of human geography and local history and its diffusion in digital format in internet. This pilot scheme has been designed in order to investigate the impacts of ICT on peripheral and isolated communities of the Information Society.
