Abstract

The Iberian Treaty goes before the Second Great World and is signed just one month before Spanish Civil War was finished. It guarantees the peninsular strategic neutrality facing to the European war. Portugal sought Franco’s Spain neutrality, kept its African colonies, and being independent against the Spanish imperial dreams; we call that defensive neutrality, made by the Portuguese men of statecraft. On the other hand Spain ties its neutrality to the republican supporter’s withdrawal and seeks to replace the current British influence in the country beside, since the Spanish policy makers sympathise with Nazis´ Ideology. This is why we talk about benevolent neutrality with regard to Axis´ States.
