Abstract

The problem of the lodging of the working population in Spain was tried to solve as of 1853 with diverse legislative measures, with little result. After the promulgation of the first Law of cheap houses (1911) the public intervention began that would reach its maximum development in the decade 1960-1970 and that would be accompanied numerous initiatives of private promoters (savings banks, companies, religious institutions). In spite of it they would remain until almost final of century XX the autoconstruction or the “barraquismo” as forms of working lodging.
