Abstract

In this study, a balance is made between the city of Puebla, from a historic, urban and architectural viewpoint, with emphasis in its historic downtown section, supposedly protected by the law through a monumental zone decree, with specific provisions which are not respected. This zone has been affected by various and conflicting urban planning policies, with a view towards an apparently uncertain future. The historic downtown section is recognized as world heritage by the UNESCO. In general terms, a macro inventory model of its monumental heritage is explained, developed through a system of geographic information, with examples of significant information mapping. Samples of the photographic inventory with aerial views are presented. General considerations of the current reality of this city are made, finally presenting some hypotheses and conclusions about a foreseeable future.
