The process of whitewashing and urban renewal in the city of Rio De Janeiro and its perspectives

Abstract

This paper is part of my initials studies concerning the efforts made by the Rio de Janeiro City Hall in order to promote a renewal in the Metropolitan Central Area, particularly in the harbour area. Taking into account similar processes of urban renewal in harbour areas all over the world, I aimed to focus on the endeavour that has been made to redevelop the decayed area and the obstacles concerning management of the metropolitan territory, due to the lack of good connections between the different levels of brazilian governments. The public policy, that aims to boost the number of persons living in the central area, plays an important role in this research.
