Resumo

Most authors who have dealt with these issues from different areas of knowledge tend to emphasize almost unanimously the extraordinary impact the new means of transport had on cities by making them more accessible, among other reasons because this led to the acquisition of economic centrality. These same means of transport, particularly rail, represented the first major stimulus for the development of urban economies and the urban modernization of our cities. Likewise, the presence of transport infrastructure, railways, railway stations and ports, prompted major changes in the morphology of urban space, as well as having significant effects on changing the hierarchy of the urban system.
