La antropología española y el magisterio de Claudio Esteva Fabregat. Estrategias institucionales y desarrollo intelectual en las disciplinas científicas

The analysis and interpretation of the scientific work of the anthropologist Claudio Esteva Fabregat, a leading authority on Spanish and international anthropology, allows identifying some strategies that have been deployed at the very heart of the community itself and in relation to other competitor scientific communities. The article examines, from theoretical texts written by himself and by other anthropologists, on the relations of conflict or cooperation that have existed, internally, between these science professionals, and toward the outside, with those from different scientific communities. The paper aims to highlight the interrelationships between the social and intellectual dimensions in the course of a scientific career, trying to raise the issue from the broader perspective of the sociology of scientific communities. The first part provides an overview of Spanish anthropology; the second analyses the social dimension, scientific training and professional opportunities of scientists and in the third, the intellectual career and teaching of Claudio Esteva in Mexico and Spain is presented, with particular emphasis on the creation of the school of anthropology of Barcelona, the research topics and methodological contributions he has made in its work. Finally the article presents the relationships and conflicts within the community of anthropologists and with other scientific communities. The article concludes with a proposal to the anthropologists about the interest of an anthropology of science.Downloads
